PHOSPHORM
Audio-Video sintisajzer
2.-4. listopada
IVEX, DeltaLab galerija, Rijeka
- Kako raditi mapiranje MIDI kontrola?
- Kako svirati s ovakvim eksperimentalnim instrumentom?
Radionica traje tri dana, svakim danom od 10:00 do 13:00 sati.

Workshop
PHOSPHORM
Audio-Video synthesizer
2.-4. October
IVEX, DeltaLab Gallery, Rijeka
7. October
Osmo/za, Ljubljana
When we display the electrical signal on an oscilloscope and listen to the sound at the same time, we notice a direct connection between the image and the sound. Although there are several methods of displaying on an oscilloscope, Lissajous curves are certainly one of the most fun. The generated abstract shapes are simple enough that we can see the basic principles of sound synthesis but also the living structures / images / shapes. The basic principles of generating such images are easiest to understand by playing with synthesizers. One such instrument is PHOSPHORM which is an open source project by American programmer Andrei Jay.
PHOSPHORM is an instrument for simultaneous image and sound synthesis. Twelve oscillators connected in a complex network create sound waves that generate animated Lissajous curves. It is conceived as an instrument primarily intended for live performances.
PHOSPHORM runs on Raspberry Pi miniature computers and can simultaneously drive HDMI screens and projectors, analog oscilloscope and speakers.
The emphasis of the workshop is on using and playing. Prior technical knowledge is not required, but welcomed.
At the workshop we will answer the following questions:
- How can we see sound?
- How is an image formed on an oscilloscope?
- What are Lissajous Curves?
- What is a Raspberry Pi?
- What are the benefits of open source software?
- How to do MIDI mapping?
- How to play with such an experimental instrument?
On the last day of the festival in Rijeka, October 4th, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned as part of the evening AV performance in the Exportdrvo hall on a 14-meter projection screen.
The workshop leader is Branimir Štivić, who will occasionally be assisted by Ivan Marušić Klif.
The workshop lasts for three days, every day from 10:00 to 13:00.
The workshop is limited to 10 participants.
Applications for the workshop are accepted by e-mail vectorhackfestival@gmail.com until September 29. Please include a short note about yourself and a motivation.
Attendees do not have to carry their equipment, we have 5 sets that attendees can use in pairs.
If someone wants to bring their own equipment, you will need:
Raspberry Pi 3+ or 3b + (+ power supply, SD card)
Korg Nanocontrol 2 (maybe another MIDI controller, but this one will work best)
