Philipp Haffner has been an integral part of the Austrian electronic music scene since the 1990s.
Together with Constantin Zeileissen he has been releasing music under the pseudonyms: Microthol, Buffered Multiple and Ha-ze Factory since 2003 on labels such as Trust, Pomelo, Puzzlebox, Shaddock, Yoshi, Minimalsoul, Lirum Larum, mr Intl, !K7, Universal, etc. In 2014, due to a lack of video material for his own music videos (especially for the Buffered Multiple project), he began to deal with video synthesis. Initially with simple means such as cameras, monitors and video mixers. In 2015, the entry into the modular video world took place. From 2016 to 2020 he enriched the event series “funkroom” with audio-reactive visual installations. Collaborations followed, such as the “Optokoppler” project with Bernhard Rasinger (laser with video feedback) for the Vector Hack Festival 2020. The work can be roughly divided into 3 different areas, which deal with the artistic use of analog oscilloscopes in connection with modular synthesizers.
* Visualizations of audio frequencies on modified Vectrex game consoles
* Alienation of video signals with the help of video synthesizers and image output on an oscilloscope
* Generating images with video synthesizers
And lately he has been working on cyanotypes with audio driven laser on canvas or watercolor paper.
